"We are now ending our walk through the novel. Connections are a fairly personal aspect of literature, but I will share with you ones that I made."

"'...it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame'" (256)
"The Red String of Fate is a myth that originated from Asian folklore. It states that when a person's soul is placed on Earth, the gods tie a red string to their ankle to another soul's ankle to keep them forever connected. The string is a representation of the soul-mate theory. Mr. Rochester speaks of such a string under his "left ribs", which is the approximate location of the heart. He feels as though the string is connected to Jane's heart, thus binding them to be soul-mates."
